Message from the School Leaders

Dear Haverstraw Elementary Community:

We are getting closer to the beginning of the school year and it's time to reconnect with school matters.

Our incoming 4th grade students visited us in the Spring. The next opportunities for families to visit us are as follows:

  • Tuesday, August 26, 7 pm: Parent information session (geared towards parents of new students regardless of the grade).
  • Thursday, August 28, 11 am: Open House (opportunity for children and families to come in, walk the building, and speak to us.

You can expect the welcome letter to arrive to your address by mid- August. Please encourage your child to do his/her summer reading in order to avoid a decrease in reading skills during the summer - visit our resources area for additional information.

Lastly, please read the two announcements below this message to enroll in two channels of communication we regularly use:
  1. Alerts via text and/or email in addition to our regular telephone messages. Use the following link to sign up:
  2. General daily school related messages via email. Complete the Electronic E-Mail Form below.
We wish our families a healthy, restful end of summer time.

Benito Herrero, Principal
Jennifer E. Luongo, Assistant Principal

Daily Announcements

Haverstraw Elementary School is pleased to welcome two new teachers to our school community.

Although this is her first year teaching at Haverstraw Elementary, Mrs. Shuler has been working in the North Rockland Central School District for the past five years.  Most recently, she spent the 2013-2014 school year teaching second grade at Thiells Elementary School.

Mrs. Shuler graduated from Ramapo College of New Jersey with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications in 2001.  After several years in the advertising industry, she went back to school to pursue teaching, earning a Masters Degree in Education from the City College of New York.  She is certified in both Elementary Education and Students With Disabilities.  As a lifelong North Rockland resident, she takes great pride in our community.  In her spare time, she enjoys reading, photography, and making daily memories with her children.

Mrs. Bradley taught in the district as a first grade teacher and a reading teacher at both Stony Point Elementary as well as West Haverstraw Elementary. Prior to her time in North Rockland, Mrs. Bradley also taught 6th grade in New York City. Mrs. Bradley is a North Rockland alumni, received her Bachelor’s Degree from James Madison University and graduated from Long Island University with a Master’s Degree in Literacy, Childhood Education and Students with Disabilities.

All visitors are required to enter from the main entrance.  Upon arrival, visitors must register at the front desk.  Please be prepared to show photo identification.
